Amazon Collapse May Be Closer Than We Think

In July, Chris Mooney reported in the Washington Post that scientists predict that a drought year that could send the Amazon Rainforest past the point of no return for ecosystem collapse.

This will be the fourth bad drought for the Amazon in 20 years, and bad forest fires that scientists predict would create an enormous loss of carbon into the atmosphere, and may unravel the Amazon ecosystem. Dr. Lovejoy echoed this projection in a recent interview in Science Magazine.
