More on Amazon Tipping Point in Mongabay

Following on Dr. Thomas Lovejoy's and Dr. Carlos Nobre's editorial in Science Advances, Mongabay published a new commentary by the two scientists further discussion how the Amazon is likely reaching a tipping point in deforestation, beyond which the regional precipitation cycle would unravel, causing a myriad of possible negative human impacts.

"We believe that with the addition of those two factors the tipping point is much closer – in the vicinity of 20-25 percent deforestation. Past that point, the east, south and central Amazon could flip from forest to non-forest ecosystems."
